“The most brutal simplicity can change the world.” Thus concludes the dissertation project by María Fabuel.
It is not so long ago that she left the classrooms at the IED Madrid. After taking a Master of Communication Design Labs, she rounded off her training at *S,C,P,F…, and currently works as a creative at the China advertising agency, along with the publicist Rafa Antón, a teacher at our school.
Working with such important figures in the industry as Toni Segarra and Rafa Antón is an invaluable experience in the education of any creative. Without a doubt, María’s development is the result of a range of visions and multidisciplinary projects, the basic pillars of our Masters of Design and Innovation.
We interviewed her to speak about her impressions and experience at the IED Madrid.
How have you changed after taking the Master of Communication Design Labs?
Above all, I have been bitten by the curiosity bug, which is endemic in a multidisciplinary environment that forces you to always be on the ball, to be curious and flexible when approaching any project. Additionally, it has helped me become unafraid when it comes to producing and showing my work, and to constantly question my beliefs.
It is possible to be good at advertising without being creative?
In a way, publicists, just like designers, have appropriated the term “creative”, but for me creativity is an essential tool in any context, whether it is design, strategic planning, cooking or organising a household budget. In my case, I have been enormously fortunate in that I have been surrounded by people I admire, who are wonderful publicists and creatives.
How do you feel about your new role as a creative at the China agency?
I tend to get enthusiastic very easily, and, in this case above all, I am really keen to learn. The China agency boasts an exceptional degree of hard work and commitment, and the people working there are highly professional. This degree of quality in such a small structure forces me to be at the top of my game all day long, which is highly stimulating.
“Good design is long-lasting”, claimed the designer Dieter Rams. We are certain that the professional quality of María Fabuel also follows this principle.
