The Master of Product Design Labs visits the Barcelona Design Week

The Barcelona Design Week combined with the appeal of the city as a world reference point in the cultural realm, turned Barcelona into the perfect destination for one of the trips of the Master of Product Design Labs 2014.

The Barcelona Design Week, organised each year by BCD (Barcelona Centro de Diseño), is an international event aimed at companies, designers and entrepreneurs from creative industries. This platform for the exchange of design experiences, combined with the appeal of the city as a world reference point in the cultural realm, turned Barcelona into the perfect destination for one of the trips of the Master of Product Design Labs 2014.

As part of the programme of this design week, the students carried out, along with the Greek studio, a workshop on Food Design, the discipline which approaches gastronomy from the perspective of global experience, as well as product and atmosphere design and the way we enjoy food.

Likewise, beyond the activities taking place as part of the Barcelona Design Week, the students carried out two circuits to discover the different facets of design offered by this cosmopolitan city.

First of all, they visited the best shops and store windows in the world of design, along with Alex Jiménez, the founder of Nutcreatives: Vinçon Design Shop, Nanimarquina Carpets, Nordicthink, Cassina Barcelona, Bo Concept, etc.

On the other hand, they gained first-hand experience of the way design is lived in a range of realms, visiting renowned businesses and studios in Barcelona, such as:
Estudio Mariscal, the first multidisciplinary studio in Spain, which has taken on great challenges throughout its long career, from the creation of the mascot of the Barcelona Olympic Games, to the global design of a luxury hotel or the creation and direction of the animation film Chico & Rita.
-The Escofet factory, which manufactures and sells top of the range architectural and moulded concrete products.
Luki Huber, a famous design studio, which helped students understand what is involved in Manual Thinking, a tool created by the studio for the visualisation of ideas and projects produced by hand.

The students of the Master of Product Design Labs also visited FabLab, where, in addition to enjoying the creative atmosphere of this coworking space, they carried out support tutorials to receive specific and personalised feedback on their thesis projects, by the designer Alex Jiménez.
