It has been calculated that by the year 2050, 70% of the population will live in urban areas. With the great majority of inhabitants living in large cities like Tokyo and London, grave doubts have been cast on our future connection with nature.
The potential for design to resolve this kind of problem is clear, and for this reason the students of the Master of Product Design Labs have carried out a workshop to improve the quality of life of citizens, the community and stakeholders within the relation of the cities of the future with nature.
In charge of challenging the students in search of a solution in this context was Jack Mama, Creative Director of VHM Design Futures and Studiomama, and former Creative Director for Visioning and Probing in Electrolux and the Philips Design Probes program.
During his time at the Masters of Design and Innovation, Jack Mama transmitted his vision of the research initiatives called “far future”, whose aim is to identify systemic movements and anticipate the changes in future lifestyles.
Also, the students, within their work to find relevant solutions, explored the incorporation of new techniques, new categories of products, new contexts, etc., which could serve as the basis for later, more advanced research in the Master.
