Cultural Seminar with Basurama. Master of European Design Labs 2009

On May 13th, 2009, Master of European Design Labs students visited with the collective Basurama, a waste treatment area in the outskirts of Madrid.
The cultural seminar, directed by Miguel Rodríguez “Míster” of the collective Basurama, took the group on an itinerary through the south peripheries of the capital, visiting various places involved in waste treatment: Detecsa Center in Valdemingomez (demolition waste storage), Cañada Real Galiana (seasonal migration path along which legal and illegal dumps accumulate) Seseña Tire Dump (next to the macro-complex El Pocero) and La Torre Junkyard (vehicle part storage).

This seminar reflects on the expiration of material, its reuse and the consumption capacity of a metropolis like Madrid. Today, the design demonstrates an awareness of the need to rethink the use of materials in our environment.
