Once again, Milan is holding the Salone del Mobile, which turns the city into the centre of international design. To this event, the largest in the sector, we must add all the parallel activities carried out over one week. The students of the Master of Product Design Labs and the Master of European Design Labs had to be there.
Over seven days, the students of these Mas had the chance to learn from the best designers of the day, discovering new trends which define the future of design and promoting their final MA programs. All of this turns Milan into a very rich personal and professional experience.
Among other visits, they attended the Salone del Mobile and the Salone Satellite, a boiling pot of trends, interesting projects and the hustle and bustle of people from the sector. They also visited the Ventura Lambrate y a la Fabbrica del Vapore, two spaces devoted to young talents where they saw the work of former students of the Masters of Design and Innovation 2014.
They also discovered the studio of Achille Castiglioni, one of the most important industrial designers in the 20th century, and the Studio Lissoni, a reference point in current design. They visited the Superstudio Più, a multifunctional space created to cover the needs of a range of creative profiles.
Arriving from Vinena, Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler, the founders of mischer’traxler studio, and Program Leaders of the Master of European Design Labs, took the young designers around the Brera Design District, the Palazzo Clerici and the Museo Poli Pezzoli. And, from Spain, Álvaro Catalán de Ocón, one of the tutors of the Master of Product Design Labs, took the students to visit the Rossana Orlandi space, where the work of the most important contemporary designers is displayed.
This movement allows each student to discover in the work of other creatives, issues linked to their final MA research piece, providing them with new perspectives and spheres of action which will enrich their own projects. A trip in which students enjoy not just the beauty of the city, but also an environment and cultural richness which allows them to make the most of the experience.
