There are many challenges facing zookeepers in which design can play a very important role. In the latest edition of the Master of Product Design Labs, the designers join with Faunia to work on environmental enrichment and promote the welfare of animals in captivity.
Faunia is more than a zoo. It is the theme park belonging to Parques Reunidos dedicated to nature in which some 7,000 animals of 500 different species from the most important habitats of the planet live together. Through various enrichment objects, animals use their natural abilities and stay active and interested in their environment.
In just three months, Master of Product Design Labs students will have to design and prototype structures and devices that offer animals new experiences, encouraging their natural behaviour and satisfying their physical and psychological needs.
A project that seeks solutions to a “real” problem, highlighting the many applications of product design for improving life. From the idea to building prototypes, the project challenges students to apply their design knowledge, creativity and skills with an innovative and creative approach.
