Santiago Cirugeda, artist and architect, participated in the 2010 European Design Labs Cultural Observatory on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 7:30pm at the Collective architectures conference at the IED Master Madrid.
The Master of European Design Labs' Cultural Observatory is the place to learn about where the world of creation is going from very diverse perspectives and with the intervention of major figures in the world of design and thinking. In this edition, Francisco Jarauta, philosopher, Ezio Manzini, architect and industrial designer, andCleve van Heerden, Creative Director of Philips Probes, have already participated.
Prior to the conference, Santiago (Seville, 1971), like his predecessors, will hold a meeting with the students of the 2010 European Design Labs in order to share his experiences and exchange opinions about the current reality of design and creativity.
After 7 years of working on his own, he created the studio Recetas Urbanas ("Urban Recipes"), focused on the development of subversive projects in different environments within the urban reality. He tackles topics such as temporary architecture, recycling, strategies of urban occupation and intervention, incorporating additional structures to already-constructed buildings, and citizen participation in the decision-making processes regarding urban issues.
At Recetas Urbanas, architecture projects are created, articles are written and different academic and cultural media are explored (Masters, seminars, conferences, workshops, exhibitions, etc.). In 2007, the book Situaciones urbanas ("Urban situations") was presented, which presents legal strategies and social demands through architectural projects. In 2008, the documentary €spanish Dr€amwas presented, along with Guillermo Cruz, which reveals the causes and effects of the real estate bubble. In 2010, the documentary En la red (On the internet) was released, about work among collective groups on the internet.
